Moortight is a flexible, tough, and low-cost mooring cable that can be used for marina piers, fish farms, buoys, breakwaters, floating fish beds, and many other applications.

Stability

Moortight is made of a special rubber with high elasticity, and even if the water level changes, it will continue to pull obliquely downward with the prescribed tension balanced by buoyancy.
As a result, it not only keeps the floating body in a constant position, but also minimizes swaying and displacement caused by external forces such as waves, wind, and ship berthing.

Cost reduction

Moortight reduces construction costs and installation time compared to piling (dolphin mooring) and chain (catenary mooring), especially in deep water or where the subsoil is poor.

Construction time shorter

Moortight makes it easy to relocate and remove floating piers. Pre-installation can be done on land before anchoring, and installation can be done without diving work.

Structure / material

Moortight is an elastic mooring cable with a special highly elastic rubber core reinforced with high-strength aramid fiber and surrounded by weather-resistant rubber. Moortight is characterized by its high energy storage capacity, which is the basic performance of elastic mooring cables. As a result, it flexibly expands and contracts to absorb and recover loads not only under normal use but also when abnormal loads are applied. In addition, it has a connecting block structure that can be freely combined from one to ten strands according to the design.
It features high-strength aramid fibers and a highly elastic rubber layer inserted between the aramid layers (Patent No. 4073256). This structure enables a larger elongation limit and higher energy accumulation than conventional products. It also flexibly absorbs excessive impact.

(1) In the common range of use, tensile reaction force is generated by the force of rubber deformation and return to its original state (rubber elasticity).
(2) When the common range is exceeded, the aramid fiber layer begins to tighten the inner core rubber. This tightening force causes the pressure of the core rubber to increase.

The core rubber layer under increased pressure accumulates energy while deforming, and at the same time, pushes and expands the aramid fiber layer from the inside with a large amount of pressure. This force causes the aramid fiber layer to generate a large force in the direction of contraction (tensile reaction force).

This is the mechanism behind Moortight’s ability to generate a design rupture strength of over 7,000 N at a thickness of 1 inch (approximately 25 mm).

In the common range of use, tensile reaction force is generated by the force of rubber deformation and return to its original state (rubber elasticity).

Selection

(1) Install the system so that the elongation during LWL is 10-20%, and the elongation during HWL is 70% or less. This range will accommodate changes in tidal range and water level.
(2) Even when subjected to external forces exceeding the common range of use due to waves, wind, etc., it will recover if the forces fluctuate for a short period of time or periodically.
(3) Actual breaking load is 10,000 N/pc or more.

The moortight is installed so that it is always under tension (being pulled) regardless of changes in water level. As the water level changes, the reaction force of the moortight is generated to balance with the buoyancy force, thus the floating body is always stable.
As shown in the figure, diagonal reaction forces are also generated, so that the floating body is stabilized in the horizontal direction as well as up and down, back and forth, and left and right at the same time.

Maintenance and inspection

Moortight recommends maintenance and inspection work every 2 to 3 years in accordance with inspections of piers and other structures.
For high water temperature range (seawater temperature over 20℃) and corrosive water environment, corrosion resistant products are required. Please consult us separately.
